Client: Conklin Company is headquartered in Minneapolis, MN. The 50-year-old company manufactures more than 130 products across eight product divisions including agronomics, animal, building products and roofing. These products are then marketed online and through a nationwide network of independent distributors.
In addition, Conklin trains professional roofers in application methods for its various, proprietary roofing systems. Once these roofers return home, they purchase their roofing products from Conklin while running their own businesses.
Challenge: Conklin wanted to share more industry information with its roofers, who were located all across the country, to help them grow their companies.
Solution: I was commissioned to write the first of several roofing products newsletters for print and online use. For content, I interviewed roofers and other professionals and turned these interviews into stories on a variety of roofing application and marketing topics.
Results: I quickly became an experienced roofing systems writer. Meanwhile, the roofers loved receiving the bi-monthly collection of valuable stories and information from and about their peers. Today, Conklin’s roofing division is its most profitable.
