Client: The Country Club Plaza, located in Kansas City, Missouri, was developed in 1923 and was the country’s original outdoor shopping center. Adorned with gorgeous Spanish architecture and art, it features regional and national retail brands as well as diverse dining and entertainment options.
Challenge: Kansas City’s suburbs were building new shopping options, threatening the prosperity The Plaza had enjoyed for decades. The Plaza Association wanted a new advertising campaign that would rejuvenate their image and feature individual retailers – thus enticing suburbia to return.
Solution: Following extensive research, I found the biggest difference between The Country Club Plaza and its competitors was its unique shops and restaurants not found anywhere else. I developed a brand line that reflected this – The One and Only Plaza – and included it on the outdoor boards. To highlight individual retailers, we created giant, three-dimensional versions of their unique shopping bags.
