Client: PrairieFresh Premium® Pork is a division of the giant Seaboard Foods conglomerate, and is the largest, American-owned pork producer. Headquartered in Kansas City, PrairieFresh sells fresh and processed products such as chops, bacon and ham to restaurants and grocery stores.
Challenge: As a livestock production and processing copywriter, PrairieFresh hired me to concept and write a series of direct mailers featuring their newest product – Prime pork chops. Pork chops are notoriously difficult to cook without turning tough. Through a proprietary infusion process, PrairieFresh created a super-tender, easy-to-cook chop. They knew one bite and their target markets would purchase them. But first they had to get in the door.
Solution: As a direct mail writer, I developed a concept that addressed the toughness issue with bold, unexpected visuals of inedible entrees, and the line: “we’ve given pork chops a complete makeover.” To add to the effect, the mailers were die-cut to look like actual plates.
Results: PrairieFresh Prime has changed the way people perceive pork chops! Since first being introduced, PrairieFresh Prime Pork Chops have been a huge hit locally, regionally and nationally.
